nintendo has demonstrated it has a tendency to do its own thing. they’re not in direct competition with sony or microsoft because they’ve carved their own niche market (that happens to be sizeable not because of serendipity) and have historically shown to always be on a slightly different trajectory. you can argue that they have flawed marketing and business practices (and you’d be right), but the fact remains that they’re still in the game because they know how to develop damn good software and above all innovate independently
